5 Ways to Improve the Sound in Your Live Online Course

Sound is just as important as the visual aspects of your live online course. If people can’t hear you properly, they will naturally get frustrated and disengage. One of the best ways to lead a successful live online community, is to invest in the best audio quality possible.

Here are 5 easy ways to ensure the sound is part of course:

1. Do a Sound Check

Sound is just as important as the visual aspects of your live online course. If people can’t hear you properly, they will naturally get frustrated and disengage. One of the best ways to lead a successful live online community, is to invest in the best audio quality possible.

Here are 5 easy ways to ensure the sound is part of course:

2. Mic Quality & Mouth Distance

For the best sound quality, use a headset or earbuds since PC mic’s don't always pick up your voice clearly. Similarly, invest in a noise-canceling microphone. Also keep the microphone the same distance from your mouth throughout to prevent abrupt tonal changes - and if there is any feedback, move the mic a little further away until it disappears.

3. Eliminate Background Noise

Background noise only serves to distract you and your students. To help ensure a quiet setting, run a pre-class check to make sure: all beeping items are turned off, all the windows and doors are shut, the AC is turned off and any other people in your space have been alerted about the need for silence.

4. Eliminate PC Sounds

Optimize your PC tools for better audio. Instead of sharing content in a PowerPoint presentation (which creates a clicking noise as you change from one slide to another, use Slideshow or similar option with your presentation software. Other ways to eliminate unnecessary sounds are to set your content on a timer, use a remote, or use your keyboard arrows.

5. Stay Away From Big Rooms

Presenting your virtual class while seated in a large room means only one thing: echoes. You want to avoid these at all costs. Instead, choose a small room and ideally one with a carpeted floor.
